Plot Summary Rosa has a great job, a stylish flat and a striking boyfriend. Everything changes overnight and she finds herself alone, without work — and with huge debts. Rosa is flabbergasted when her father Russell denies her moving back into the family home and suggests providing her with some degree of financial help instead. As much as Russell loves his children — they are grown up and should be well able to deal with their problems. Russell has been looking forward to peaceful marital bliss and possibly a second honeymoon with this wife Edie for a long time. When their youngest son leaves home for university, Russell feels closer to his dream — and that's when Rosa comes in with her demands. Russell can’t understand his daughter's disbelief and he also can't see why Edie would consider him an uncaring father. Rosa finds temporary shelter at her friend Kate and starts to work at a low-budget travel agent. Living with the pregnant Kate and her husband turns out to be a disaster and Matt, Rosa's elder brother, has his own problems: his high-flyer girlfriend Vivian plans to buy an apartment he would not be able to afford and his male pride forbids him to move in with her. The couple splits up and to Russell’s dismay Matt is the first to return to the family home. To make matters worse, Edie also takes in a lodger: Laszlo, a talented writer to-be. Rosa's new job is clearly below her potential, but she soon turns out to be a sales genius. Fate seems to turn when her ex, Josh, suddenly appears and wants to get back together. Rosa's living-in arrangement becomes increasingly impossible when Edie eventually persuades her daughter to return home; Rosa has to put up with Laszlo, a man she despises and has no time for at all. It doesn’t take long before Russell himself is about to leave the overcrowded nest. Edie realises that family peace cannot be restored and she now has to fear for her marriage. Vivien is unhappy — and pregnant, something Matt is not supposed to find out. Rosa does not agree but has vowed to keep quiet. Laszlo of all people shows Rosa she will have to act decisively in order to help her family and herself move on. And suddenly another decision has to be made in regard to Josh — and in regard to Laszlo, whom Rosa now sees in a very different light, although Laszlo fears that she may only be playing with his heart. |
